Khadijah bint Khuwaylid (RA)
Abdullah bin Abbas (ra) narrated that one day the Prophet
(saw) drew four lines on the ground and asked his companions if they understood
these lines stood for. They respectfully replied that he knew better. He then
told that these four lines stood for four foremost ladies of the universe. The
first was Khadijah bint Khuwalidbeing the mother of believers. The second was
Fathimah bint Muhammad, who was given glad tidings that she would be the leader
of all women of paradise. The third line stood for Maryam, the pure and chaste
soul, mother of Isa (AL) and the fourth was Asiyah bint mazahim(ra), wife of
Pharaoh and brought up mother of Musa (AL) and first accept Islam.
Khadijah (RA) was born in Makkah in the year 556 CE to Fatimah bint Za’id, and Khuwaylid bin Asad. He was a very popular leader of Quraish, and a very prosperous businessman who died while fighting in the famous battle of Fujjar. She was brought up and nurtured in the lap luxury. She was married to Abu Halal Malak bin Nabash bin Zarrah bin At- Tamimi who unfortunately passed away. He born him two children, Halal and Hind. The young widow remarried ‘Ateeq bin ‘Aith bin ‘Abdullah Al- Mukhzumi, and she born a daughter by him named Hindah. The marriage soon broke up on grounds of incompatibility. All her attention turned towards upbringing of her children. She was running her business successfully which she inherited from her father.
One
night she had a dream. The shining sun was descending from heavens to her
courtyard, radiating her home. Her cousin Waraqah bin Nawfal, a blind man
skilled in interpreting dreams, and noted for his knowledge of Torah and Injil,
interpreted the dream with a serene smile, that the shining sun was Prophet
(SAW) whose advent had been predicted in Torah and Injil was to grace her
home. After this meeting her friend Nafeesah bint Manbah went to Prophet (SAW)
and asked whether he would marry a beautiful lady from a noble family. After
knowing her identity he agreed provided if Khadijah (RA) was willing to marry
him. Kadijah (RA) was overjoyed with the news. The two uncles of the
Prophet(SAW), Hamzah (RA) and Abu Talib approached her uncle ‘Umar bin Asad
with a formal proposal. It was accepted and the marriage took place on the
fixed date. The Prophet was 25 years old and she was 40. Halimah Sa’adiyah who nursed
the Prophet (SAW) was specially invited and was presented with household goods,
a camel and 40 goats as an expression of gratitude.
Khadijah was very blessed with marriage, nd had 6 children.
First two were sons, Qasim and Abdullah followed by daughters Zainab, Ruqayyah
and Umm Kulthumj and Fathimah (RA).
She was an ideal wife and a mother. She passed away just 3
years before Hijrah (Migration to Madinah) at the age of 65. Her soul left age
of 65. Her soul left her earthly body and her grave was prepared at a place
called Hujjoon near Makkah. Her grave personally inspected by the Prophet and
with his own hands lowered her gently. Thus passed away the Mother of all
Muslims, a great supporter of the Prophet(SAW), the one who sacrificed her
“all” for Islam.
